AI: Voice-over & audio

At Foxmountain, we’re always open to innovative technologies that make our workflows more efficient and flexible. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays an increasingly important role in animation and video, particularly in voice-overs and audio. Here’s how we use AI and the benefits it brings.

AI and Voice-overs: Efficiency in the Creative Process

One of the most tangible ways AI helps us is in creating test voice-overs. Previously, we had to return to a professional voice actor for every change, which was time-consuming and costly. Now we generate an AI voice-over in the early stages of production. This offers several advantages:

  • Flexibility: When a script is modified, we can immediately generate a new version without depending on a voice actor.

  • Better Timing: The AI voice-over helps us accurately synchronize the animation, ensuring everything aligns perfectly before recording the final voice-over.

  • Cost Savings: We reduce the number of revision rounds with the voice actor, saving both time and money.

While AI-generated voice-overs can’t yet match the emotional depth of a real voice actor, they function as powerful tools in the creative process.

AI and Music: Automatic Compositions

Besides voice-overs, we’re also exploring AI for background music. Currently, we don’t use this yet, as composed music, whether custom-made or from a music database, still sounds better. However, we’ll definitely see changes in this area in the future:

  • Quick Availability: Instead of searching for suitable royalty-free music or hiring a composer, we can generate a soundtrack matching the video’s mood within minutes.

  • Dynamic Adjustment: AI music can be adjusted in length and intensity to perfectly fit the video’s structure.

While AI music becomes increasingly sophisticated, we still use custom compositions and stock music for a unique and human touch.

AI and Sound Effects: The Future of Audio Design

In sound effects, we’re currently experimenting with AI, though it doesn’t play a major role in our production yet. Certain AI tools can generate or modify sound effects, but in practice, we still largely rely on existing audio libraries and handcrafted effects. However, we expect AI to play an increasingly important role, for example, through automatically generated effects that adjust to animation in real-time.

The Future of AI in Our Productions

AI developments are moving rapidly, and at Foxmountain, we’re keeping a close eye on them. While we currently use AI mainly for support, this could potentially expand to more advanced applications in the future, such as:

  • AI-generated voice-overs that are barely distinguishable from real voices.

  • Dynamic, real-time generated music that automatically adapts to the animation.

  • Automated sound design tools that instantly generate appropriate sound effects.

AI will never completely replace the creativity and emotion of human professionals, but it’s a powerful tool that helps us work more efficiently and flexibly. At Foxmountain, we embrace these developments and look forward to what the future brings!
